suckerPUNCH: describe your project.
john HOOPER: The project is a continuation of a digital fabrication course at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation taught by Josh Draper and Joe Vidich.
The installation is a static representation of a responsive system, using the orientation of the unit to create a discernible image. All of the intelligence of the piece was incorporated into the connections in the back board, allowing for a rapid assembly.
sP: what or who influenced this project?
jH: Daniel Rozen’s wood mirrors, Studio Pre_Post
sP: what were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?
jH: The Black Keys, Passion Pit, Phoenix, Rolling Stones
sP: whose work is currently on your radar?
jH: Studio Pre_Post, Associated Fabrication, Snohetta, Francois Roche, DS+R, Hernan Diaz-Alonso, Droog, X.N.O.T., but mostly other colleagues in GSAPP
