suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
Katie AMRINE, Meaghan CAMP, Morgan FENG, Shelley FU, Saeed GHODS, Peter JEUNG, Jonathan LEE, Andrea MENDOZA, David NICHOLSON, Krithika PRABHAKARAN, Zenah SAKAAMINI, Eugene SU, Vicky WONG, & Graham WOOD: The Glass Pavilion is an investigation of the aesthetic and structural qualities of glass. The use of polycarbonate, a transparent material with many of the same structural properties as glass, allowed us to create a self-supporting structure on a smaller budget.
The Pavilion creates a space that is not only defined by its surroundings due to the transparency of the material but also separates and divides the participant from his surroundings.
sP: What or who influenced this project?
KA, MC, MF, SF, SG, PJ, JL, AM, DN, KP, ZS, ES, VW, & GW:The Glass Pavilion began with a fascination with the mountain and valley folds in simple origami. We developed our understanding of the folds turning them into a structural system. These folds eventually allowed the structure to become self-supporting.
sP: What were you reading/ listening to? Watching while developing this project?
KA, MC, MF, SF, SG, PJ, JL, AM, DN, KP, ZS, ES, VW, & GW: Ludovico Einaudi, Lana Del Rey, Air Dubai, & Alex Clare.
sP: Whose work is currently on your radar?
KA, MC, MF, SF, SG, PJ, JL, AM, DN, KP, ZS, ES, VW, & GW: Alvaro Siza, Atelier Bow-Wow, Toyo Ito, Kengo Kuma, & Sanaa

It’s a simple manipulation of an established origami tectonic; not that creative.
