suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
FreelandBuck (David FREELAND & Brennan BUCK): Fabricated for the Possible Mediums Conference/Exhibition at Ohio State University, this 48” cubic space frame is inspired by Alexander Graham Bell’s 19th century box kite flying contraptions.
Rather than lift, our structure develops a complex 3-dimensional order of intricately stacked volumes. A logic of 3-dimensional packing rather than deformation or smooth variation creates nested hierarchies and symmetries as well as individual cells with very different character and orientation. As the cube turns, 2-dimensional image fragments into a volumetric field before and re-collapsing again.
