This is a project from my first year studio design which culminate in the design of a single house for a painter and a fashion designer, and is going to figure out a unique way for two artists living together although they are working in two different manner of art. My first artist is a painter named Murakami Takashi, another artist is a fashion designer named Craig Green. Based on their works called Tan Tan Bo and one of the design from Green’s A/W 2015 Campaign. Based on three different ways of tracing the work Tan Tan Bo, I designed the landscape. The flowing exterior of the house is inspired by Craig Green’s’ work which the roving ribbon reminds me making the facade curvilinear and dynamic. The conflict between the flat surface and energetic sides represents divergence between eastern and western culture, as well as the contrast exists in texture. Murakami’s concept of “Superflat” is being showed in the design: The flat top glass representing Japanese 2D art concept and the same time bring lights into the interior, and giving a good view from the courtyard. The suitable insertion to the landscape enable the house be in a very advantageous position which there is a existing depth. The opening space on the first floor can be a gallery for artists hold exhibitions in the future. Because of both two artists working in different artistic field, they both have their own private working and sleeping spaces, and common studio as well. The most interesting part of this house are the spiral stairs which connecting the indoor courtyard, two artists studios, and kitchen. This open-type stair gives walkers a great view of looking down the whole architecture. In other words, walkers can use stairs walk in and out a room and get back on stairs again. This idea is more clear to see through the animation in the package.
