One of the most provocative and exciting architects today, Greg Lynn has defined how designers and architects use computers as a medium, operating in an expanded field that fuses cutting-edge technology, contemporary art, and science fiction aesthetics with architectural form. At the epicenter of a debate about the role of digital design in architecture and design, his projects skillfully blend high technology and detailed craftsmanship, driven by modeling software from the film and aerospace industries. Included are contributions from theorists, architects, and artists, and futurists such as J. G. Ballard and Bruce Sterling.

Vojtech GERYK: The project, “Brain Technology Centre,” is an experimental research center dealing with neuroscience. The project aims to create an interactive learning environment that offers a way to improve or regenerate brain activity. The project with its own focus should build on existing research centers around, which have been involved in neurosurgery and neuroscience.

Studio Lynn is one of three studios teaching architectural design in the Institute of Architecture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The studio is directed by Los Angeles-based architect Greg Lynn and his team of assistant professors as a 3 year Master course with students of all levels studying design topics together. Studio Lynn studio focuses on the composition of intricately connected, subtly varied, continuously differentiated elements in non-modular dimensional series. Students’ sensibilities are attuned to the rhythmic patterns and undulations of calculus as they apply to architecture. We critically and creatively embrace the digital tools that have recently burst into architecture and effloresced in a myriad of forms and shapes. UCLA Architecture and Urban Design (A.UD) announce the launch of IDEAS, a new platform for cross-disciplinary research collaborations among students, faculty, industry and other partners that will radically question, challenge and expand the current parameters of architecture practice. As part of this initiative, the department has added a new Los Angeles satellite location and significantly expanded its master’s of architecture program, which will now feature studio courses taught by several of the biggest luminaries in the field — Thom Mayne, Greg Lynn, and Frank Gehry, with Gehry Partners and Gehry Technologies.
