Michael HANEKE’S thriller distorts conventions and delivers a true psychopath in Paul, its fourth wall breaking antagonist. With a minimal setup and lack of character’s motives or background the film presents a horrifying night which unravels in an unnerving fashion. Haneke plays with viewer expectations and even allows himself to ‘rewind’ scenes and deliver asides to the audience in his film essay on violence in the media.
