suckerPUNCH: describe your project.
si SCOTT: An ongoing exploratory personnel project developing a series
of illustrative studies of flying insects.
sP: what or who influenced this project?
sS: This project came about directly from the Airborne series of drawings.
Matthew had seen the Airborne series and asked me to come to his studio for
a meeting to discuss a project which became the scissor insects. The idea
was the mix of something organic with something something hard/metallic etc…
sP: what were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?
sS: I am currently listening to Tv On The Radio, Bjork and an amazing record by Edward sharpe & the Magnetic zeroes.
I read a lot of fact - especially about the 2nd world war, I seem to have a morbid fascination with that time in history.
sP: whose work is currently on your radar?
sS: This sounds really bad but I don’t really spend a lot of time looking at others work - I have my
favourites and that does me fine - Vaughan Oliver, Farrow Design & Marion Deuchars have always been
amongst my favourite designers/illustrators. I am not really that concerned with what others are doing - I tend
to concentrate on what I’m doing and making it the best it can be.
