mark SHKOLNIKOV / tia CROCKER: TAs the Tidal North Sea flows into and withdraws from the River Thames, an estuary condition occurs just East of the city of London, affecting its ecology with its dynamic exchange of currents. In one typical day, the elevation of the River Thames fluctuates from 10 feet above the river bed to 30 feet, and back down again.
Our project proposes an urbanism consisting primarily of a concentration of rafts floating along the River Thames, whose motions are activated by the ebbs and flows of the River to create new configurations and programmatic adjacencies.
