University of Applied Arts Vienna
Postgraduate Master Thesis, Excessive III
critics: Hernan DIAZ ALONSO, Jose CARLOS, Tyler BORNSTEIN
suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.
FEIYU Qi: This project represents my thesis for the “Excessive” postgraduate program at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, 2012. The aim was to design a new train station for Vienna by reinterpreting the existing Westbahnhof station.
In terms of the aesthetics and the forms, there is a psychology disease called Trypophobia. People with it would fear clusters of small similar shapes and holes. However, that kinds of forms are what I admired, cause in my opinion, they obey the logic of growth and the beauty of nature. So I would use a few basic space units, through deformation and different ways of composition, to generate the complicated and functional space.
sP: What or who influenced this project?
FQ: Form of motion, Form of micro creatures, ants and bees, fashion, Hernan Diaz Alonso, Alexander McQueen.
sP: What were you reading/listening to/watching while developing this project?
FQ: 1980s sci-fi movies, 1980s Chinese rock music, 1980s Japanese cartoon.
sP: Whose work is currently on your radar?
FQ: Xefirotarch, Morphosis, Richard Roges.

tyler bornstein is an insecure hack who shouldn’t be designing or given the opportunity to critique other peoples work.
this school has become hernans brothel, an overpriced cesspool of minions whom lack the moral aptitude to design true neo-gothic work.
