    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

Oyler Wu Collaborative: Designed and built by the office of Oyler Wu Collaborative along with students of the Southern California Institute of Architecture, Stormcloud is the third project in a series of installations designed for SCI-ARC. The previous two installations, Netscape and Centerstage were designed for the school’s graduation ceremonies in 2011 and 2012 respectively. With SCI-Arc celebrating its 40th anniversary, the school commissioned the new pavilion for the after-party of its April 2013 gala. Tasked with the challenge of revamping the existing Netscape pavilion, Oyler Wu Collaborative saw the project as an opportunity to take a completely different approach to the problem.

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

Thomas BAGNOLI: The status, including the size and form of a portion of the living matter is the result of various forces that represent or symbolize the manifestations of various forms of energy.

When we encounter a simple geometrical construction, for example in the honeycomb of bees, shells, or nautilus, or radiolarian, we see them as an operation of physical forces and mathematical laws and not as a concept of “final cause” causality.

    suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

Nick ERVINCK: NOITEM is one of my most recent works. These works will be respresented as huge lightboxes. As a Rorsach-stain, these works have no single-point perspective and can be interpreted in different ways. For this series I don’t use my trademark color yellow but push the boundaries with very poetic and mysterious results. Desperately we try to search for forms we recognize but these creations don’t seem to fit in any category. Floating in an infinite space, the serie is like a shadow of the past. You can compare it in a way to “nachbilder” or “afterimages”: optical illusions we see for the short moment after we looked directly into the sun.

    nicosia CYPRUS

Having been abandoned for 38 years now, the development of the areas lying within the UN-controlled Buffer Zone in Cyprus has been brought to a practical standstill. The aim of the Visiting School will be to hypothetically re-instantiate this development, fast-forwarding into the near future and speculating on the sprawling tendencies of the confiscated territories. The main agenda will be to use digital tools in order to explore non-linear scenarios of its targeted rehabilitation.
