Zaid Kashef ALGHATA: Extrusion plays a fundamental role within the discipline of architecture. It is a form of geometric projection that creates representations of objects that maintain a fixed cross-sectional outline. In plan, a line is extruded to situate a wall; in section, a curve is extruded to create a barrel vault.

Karls Platz I & II are two unsubmitted proposals which were worked out for the competition for a new museum at the historic Karlsplatz in Vienna. Both proposals make are based on the same decision to arrange the museum program over three large floor slabs. Both proposals are partially based on the repetition of a single, discrete element which is then assembled into a highly differentiated building.

The pattern can be understood as a code, or set of operations, which program the path of the line—each loop representing one bit of data.
