melissa SHIN: This project explores the vicissitudinous juxtaposition between contemporary art and the environment in which it is exhibited. A grid or lattice was imposed upon the site as a response to the studio’s challenge of building on a site with very little organized urban context (the Brooklyn Navy yard) but within a city defined by a predominantly strong grid.

jeremy JIH: Vaultscape is a proposal for the 2012 San Francisco America’s Cup that attempts to reshape the structural geometries and material narrative of the architectural vault while producing a fluid spatial frame to support the variable scales of the Cup’s sailing races.

Anti-Air: Air or the invisible atmosphere that surrounds us can be activated as a kind of “anti-air.” Twenty four slaughterhouse workers have reported symptoms of extreme numbness and paralysis. Researchers find that brain mist, a microscopic industrial byproduct, can impair human motor functions when inhaled. The atmosphere was first understood to be a weapon at the 1915 battle of Ypres. German troops deployed chlorine gas to poison the environment of their Canadian opponents. Instead of harming human flesh the environment which sustains life was targeted.

jessica DOVLETIAN & wenny HSU: Manifold Masses: Kaohsiung Port Terminal, Taiwan. This project investigates formal internal orders of architecture, specifically saddle polyhedral and their potential for generating intensive massing and figural interstices. We were interested in a rigorous and playful examination of these systems and their capacity to generate new forms and spatial expressions that are themselves embedded within a deep underlying order.

wilson WU / nicholas POULOS / michael GROSS: This project was designed by using a linear story line. A House that plays out in 3 acts. In the beginning the couple is together and lives in their first house. The middle the couple separates. Thus the house modifies and adapts to the change. The narrative ends with a natural disaster of an earthquake that cause the house to make one more shift.

carla LORES + michael YARINSKY: New York City’s Watershed is a site in crisis. Not only is there a larger demand for water due to the growth of the population, but due to further suburban development in upland areas, water catchment sites are not as hygienic as once thought. Within the Croton Watershed lies Carmel. This suburban town in Putnam County has large basins for water catchment integrated into a developed suburban community. The distributed system currently in place for the dispersal of sewage, though, has a very high risk of contaminating the watershed.

jon BAILEY: Increasing infatuations with technology and biology have created a society of biophilia and technophilia, where these ideaologies have seeped into nearly every facet of human existence. With architecture dependently bound to the technologies of human creation, as we are able to manipulate biological matter at the unit of the molecule, simulate complex biological systems and synthesize DNA our habitat shall too become more bionic.
