Xueqi BAI, CHEN Danfeng, Joseph SARAFIAN, Matt WHITHAM, Hun-Tao YU, & Xianshuang ZENG: Exploring the relationship between the component, the object, and the aggregation, this series of transformations begins with a cuboctahedron and subdivides it internally and externally. The interior geometry is severed into four pieces that can be assembled in various configurations while the exterior is transformed with a series of recursive subdivisions.

Brian HARMS with Haejun JUNG, Vince HUANG, & Yuying CHEN: This project aims to blur the line between processes of design and fabrication in the context of rapid prototyping by increasing the fluidity of the fabrication process through coordinated material and robotic processes. The project exploits feedback loops that allow the process to be used as a live generative form-finding tool as well as a method for reification of designed objects.

Peter VIKAR & Al ATAIDE: “Flight Forms” revisits early-’90s animation ideas of architecture in the Robotic Simulation environment of SCI-Arc. Inspired by Thomas Eakins’s Chronophotography studies of moving bodies in space our initial starting point was a “drone” that can fly independently. Based on its motion, nature of behavior, and momentum we have created a 3-D visual catalog, and motion library. This library was then placed in the robotic simulation environment where the flight paths were controlled to generate forms.
