dave EDWARDS: For Mircea Eliade “The distinction between the sacred and the profane is that of a boundary or threshold. a boundary between the ordinary mundane and confused versus the security and sense of being that comes only via accessibility to the sacred.”
The work centers on the notion of these two dialectic states, of the transition between the profane and the sacred. Initial studies began with a study into Dante’s Divine Comedy as a physical construction of the threshold between sacred spaces of Paradise and the Profane Inferno.

miro STRAKA: By adding architectural meanings to emotional understandings of delights, spectrum of functions is created. Selecting desired percentual share creates composition, which affects fetal disposition. Seed is basic spatial characteristic determining shape evolving process and final diversity. After successful hatching of basic form, skeletal system is designed, growing thin, rib-like structure, where loads are minimal, transfering loads through spine into thicker, fluent pelvis and grounding it with long, strong femur. Skin is assembled by pillows with liquid, which circulates through vascular system based on temperature requirements.

jordan SQUIRES: This project is about converting ideas pertaining to the vehicle and the courtyard into a three-dimensional grid that would become a house in Silver Lake, California. The surfaces are constructed from the grid (not to represent the grid) so that any plan or section of the house would also have an elegant composition in the style of the original drawing. The sweeping outer wall acts as a porch, privacy wall, driveway and carport; and wraps the site in towards the reservoir and neighboring VDL house.

erin LANI: This thesis is an exploration of graffiti techniques as they may be applied to architecture and the architectural design process. Qualities specific to the graffiti composition such as the action of layering, outlining, and coloring, as well as the arc of the wrist, elbow and arm have been engaged to create dynamic and woven compositions of three or more alphabetic characters (usually the pseudonym of the artist). More recent and complex graffiti is the inspiration, exemplified in the work of RIME (Los Angeles) and DAIM (Germany).

joseph RAMIRO & koho LIN: This project explores the productive ambiguities created when graphic painting is applied to distinct formal gestures. The graphic begins to produce illusions of depth and flatness which enhance and camouflage the formal qualities of the building from different vantage points.
