    WHITING, an expert in urban and architectural theory, is dean of the school of architecture at rice university, where witte also serves as associate professor of architecture. before coming to rice, whiting served on the faculty of the princeton university school of architecture. perhaps best known for her professional criticism, whiting has had dozens of articles published on urban and architectural theory. in addition to editing several journals, she has edited books on architects ignasi de solà-morales and james carpenter, is the author of the forthcoming book “superblock city,” and is the editor of “point,” an architectural book series to be published by princeton university press.

    reiser + umemoto: pop music, while a global phenomenon, is regional in its definition. the taiwanese pop music scene typifies the phenomenon; while it crosses borders and cultures and dialects, it nevertheless has produced styles and genres with distinct transnational form and appeal. though many aspects of pop culture exist in a hyper-technological or virtual realm, there is a need for a defined physical hub dedicated to the production and reception of pop.

    bin LU, vadimir IVANOV, robert LOFFLER: the whole year task is designing from small fashion and industry designs (shoes + bag, arm-chair + lap-top, car + garage, beach villa + boat) to bigger scales building projects (stadium + podium). total fluidity on all scales for all programmes. the final products for this semester integrate all first 3 double-designs into a single complex. our abstract idea behind is the interaction between user and object and object to object.

    rives RASH: these are planters made from fly-ash, a byproduct of burning coal. the designs are drawn and built by students from uky-cod (university of kentucky college of design) fad elective (fabrication and design). the goal of the class is to discover a drawing technique and use it to design a product (in this case a planter) and then produce it.

    in breakfast by the light of the moon, emilio PEREZ shifts towards a more elusive approach and darker palette than seen in his previous abstract paintings while still maintaining his signature practice—juxtaposing freeform movement with meticulous, measured actions. breakfast by the light of the moon is perez’s second solo exhibition at galerie lelong and will open to the public on thursday, february 11 from 6 to 8 pm. the artist will be present.
