kyle STOVER: this project is from the first comprehensive building studio at yale university. the project is for an extension to the beinecke rare book and manuscript archives, which has run out of adequate storage space, particularly for large format materials. my project seeks to explore a paradigm emerging out of a conceptual study of poche, and exploring the figural possibilities of a mass/void relationship.

this project seeks to integrate topological surfaces into a series of walls and vaults, offset by a series of standardized spaces, allowing for a unique spatial experience for the various user groups involved in the program.

Can’t help but be reminded of Greg Lynn’s teapot designs for Alessi. What I especially like here though is that the building is rather orthagonal from the outside, and then hits you with this incredible section.

I agree its like a nice juxtaposition between the two. Very much like his conceptual idea of doing the same with contemporary/modern trains of thought. The meandering lines in the square box… Excellent
