The Night of The Hunter was on TMC a couple nights ago (nice timing sP!), and I was completely stunned. It’s such a unique film- kind of like Cocteau doing M set in The Great Depression. Robert Mitchum is an wild animal - one of the most intense performances I’ve ever seen. Did anyone else think of Jack Nicholson in The Shining while watching him trapped in the basement, or when he lunged out at the kid with his knife?. The scenes of the kids on the boat reminded me of Terence Malick’s films and Murnau’s Sunrise. It’s such a shame Charles Laughton never made another movie.
