Facelift and Makeup
los angeles CALIFORNIA

suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

HAO jiang: The Studio is operating on the unfinished face of San Lorenzo Cathedral in an impressionistic way. The project is operating at an increased degree of ability of the cosmetic effect to transform the identity of architecture. Much like the relationship of facelift and makeup to the human face, the architectural operation would embellish the existing features via different brushstrokes, material, texture and lighting.

The Opus of Caspar Questel
melbourne AUSTRALIA

suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

vonne YANG & kiet NGUYEN: In the bush, one descends from a state of happiness, to state of survival, to the state of death, during the initial stage, we experience, we wonder, we live with no fear as one descends below the threshold of survival to death, one’s instinct of survival overpowers positivity, and we experience paranoia because of the fear from death. In the Australian bush, all animals, including humans enter a primitive mode of self-preservation on order to survive the harsh environment. We question whether there is a stage after death, in which machine can assist in the undertaking of the dead.

Clybourn Metra Station

adviser: erich SCHOENENBERGER

suckerPUNCH: Describe your project.

Studio Nexus (kyle DUNNINGTON, andrew KROLL, & trey LINDSAY): The project was part of a comprehensive design studio at Pratt Institute under Professor Erich Schoenenberger. In our initial conversations we became interested in the train station typology operating as a ‘nexus’ of ideas, social differences, geographical / circulatory expanses, etc. We attempted to map these characteristics merging in three-dimensional space by developing a series of site lines which could inform the buildings development such that the direction and intensities of these ‘lines’ became the framework of the buildings use, form, systems, etc.
