    WORKSHOP AGENDA: Post-9/11, Post-Tsunamis, Post-Earthquakes, Post-Olympics, Post-Hadid; Post- McQueen.

Alexander McQueen (1969–2010) was one of the most influential and provocative designers of his generation. His clothing challenged the generic and conventional parameters of fashion to express culture, politics, identity. McQueen saw beyond clothing design physical constraints its ideological and conceptual possibilities, addressing questions related to race, gender, religion, sexuality and environment. During AA School Paris Spring 2012, McQueen’s evolutionary design will act as prompts for embryos’ naissance within the [Fashion+Architecture] body of work.

In addition to working with United Nude on a shoe titled Fang, Micro also saw van Herpen collaborating with designer Stephen Jones, artist Bart Hess, architect Isaie Bloch, and graphic designer Tara Doughans.

Fabrication of the Isaie Bloch assisted design was achieved on 3D printers at Materialise’s Belgian headquarters (using laser sintering), metal plating giving the appearance of antique bronze to the final product.

isaie BLOCH: How boring has perfection become?

Evidence of this lies in the fact that our contemporary design obsessions are based on an appreciation for the perversity of mutant form, a taste learned from the movies and set to work on architecture.

By subverting the logic of perfection and beauty, non-perfect images coming from controlled methodologies are generated. What used to be about mastering the result of a non-perfect process is now about the production of monstrosity and the grotesque throughout accurate mechanisms.
