Andreas KOSTOPOULOS & Avra TOMARA: How can we reinvent the “sectional object”? The “box-within-a-box” architecture serves as an alternative to the homogeneous Modern free plan and section. The inner “box” or figure, incongruent with its envelope, creates complex interstitial spaces which deny homogeneity. “Blankness,” the resistance of the mass to external referents such as ornamentation or formal recognition is of high importance. External surface and internal programs are loose and non-linearly correlated, the skin is definitely a loose-fit envelope.

Using artist works of Bart Hess as the operational jumping off point, material stretching, liners, aggregated objects, and ultimately figures in a sack were developed as an operative technique.

Jacqueline HO: Broad Museum Redux in L.A. Intricate figures pushing through elastic surfaces create razor-sharp edges and webbing. Tattoos track with, and sometimes diverge from morphology. Firmly sited but distinct from the ground, allowing movement into, under and around tattooed surfaces via a public plaza.

Andreea MANDRESCU (Studio Andreea Mandrescu Ltd.): Inlaid Fantasies is based on the research of marquetry and inlay crafts, the material and the aesthetic traditionally used. The aim was to create a new tactile and visual experience that will bring a new perspective on the traditional crafts by implementing them into textile design. The outcome was/is a series of fluid, soft surfaces inlaid and overlaid on fabrics that can be used in fashion, accessories as well as interiors. The predominant combination of materials is fabrics, different kinds of rubber, faux fur, veneers and leather.
