abstract BIRDS: Cinematica: This project is based on a particle system that simulates the behaviour of particles influenced by forces in the space. Forces are generated by specific sources that create wave ripples. the wave accumulation create a complex force field and make the particles moving in organic shapes.

skylar TIBBITS: Logic Matter: Digital Logic as heuristics for physical self-guided-assembly
Given the increasing complexity of the physical structures surrounding our everyday environment; buildings, machines, computers and almost every other physical object that humans interact with, the processes of assembling these complex structures are inevitably caught in a battle of time, complexity and human/machine processing power. If we are to keep up with this exponential growth in construction complexity we need to develop automated assembly logic embedded within our material parts to aid in construction.

    MAK Gallery
    Stubenring 5, 1010 Vienna

For the MAK Gallery, SPAN is planning a spatial intervention transferred into a black box. “Formations” will unfold its meaning in various scenarios consisting of models, animations and architectonic elements, providing the observer with novel insights into a laboratory of contemporary architectural production. The individual stations and levels of the exhibition, based on organic patterns of movement, refer to one another and oscillate between abstract, dynamic forms and hybrid structures.

    suckerPUNCH: describe your project.

mitch ROCHELEAU (Productora Studio): This project is a proposal for the implementation of prefabricated high efficiency residential prototypes into pre-existing underground spaces. The strategy for execution of this type of community is driven by the availability of natural light. The availability of natural light stands as the primary concern when developing underground habitats, therefore it is the organizational mechanism which this project is based on. Through the development of a digital light simulation we were able to digitally reproduce pre-existing cave structures and run our light simulation particle emitter to determine if the site would be advantageous to develop.

servo: This commissioned proposal for a 250 sqm private residence in a suburb of Stockholm engages the entropic potentials of the interaction between organic and synthetic matter in architecture. This project exploits the latent responsiveness of energetic exchanges - specifically the transfer of heat, moisture and light through an architectural medium and their effects on more extensive ecologies.

erich SCHOENENBERGER / ferda KOLATAN: Times Square is a special place. Layered, colorful and vibrant, it serves both as a destination and a passageway, physically as well as in the collective imagination of the world. Everything flows here: People, vehicles, light, sound, images and time. In this dynamic stream, clusters of organization emerge at times circular and stagnant, then rapidly complex and pulsating. Fuzzy Pulse pays homage to this place and celebrates love as an atmospheric kaleidoscope.

lucy McRAE: For two years I have been experimenting with the idea of intangible textiles made form liquid vapor or air. I started off playing with standard garden hose systems and then upgraded to importing industrial air conditioning parts from China. It was during this experimentation that I saw liquid and air bubbles travelling through transparent tubes, I had no intention of making something with tubes, but this visual opportunity was too good not to pursue.
