Werner Herzog dives into the Chauvet Cave in southeastern France with 3d cameras to capture an amazing view into Paleolithic cave painting with 21st century visualization techniques. The film is the first truly great use of 3d in rethinking cinematic space. The cave’s warped surfaces and cinematic like drawings bulge and layer to create a sensation of depth not seen before in the cineplex. With Werner’s wry narration hovering over the dreamy vineyards, rivers, and caves of the region the movie is mesmerizing mix of ideas and visuals. And a few albino alligators never hurt
