Designing a cultural center was a task to reveal what could be the image of contemporary Taiwanese architecture. A cultural center is as good a place as any to express the identity of Taiwan.

    The Taichung City Cultural Center stands as the gateway into Taichung Gateway Park in the Taichung Gateway District. The facility will include a world-class Museum of Fine Arts and a Public Library. Located on the northern end of the Park, The project will provide citizens with a multipurpose cultural, artistic and recreational facility.

    The Taichung Cultural Center is first and foremost a symbol of progress. The building will command an International presence attracting venues and promoting new forms of the Arts. The building will have an iconic presence. The technologically advanced, environmentally mindful scheme projects a sophisticated, lively, progressive, forward thinking vision, catapulting Taichung into the 21st century.

  • SOFTlab, Light House.
    los angeles CALIFORNIA

    Sonos has collaborated with New York design studio SOFTlab to bring their Light House installation to the Sonos Studio Los Angeles. Powered by SONOS PLAY:3, PLAY:5 and SUB, Light House sits in the middle of the Sonos Studio, and is comprised of four rooms. Each room is filled with not only Sonos speakers, but fluorescent light tubes that react to music and its different frequencies, from the SUB to the PLAY:3 tweeters . In other words, the installation literally shows how Sonos fills your home with music.

    Synthesis Design + Architecture (SDA), the forward-thinking Los Angeles-based architecture firm led by architect and USC professor, Alvin Huang, has recently won an international competition to design a rapidly deployable pavilion to showcase Volvo’s new plug-in electric hybrid, the V60.

    Volvo’s “Switch to Pure Volvo” competition, organized by international architecture magazine THE PLAN, called for an innovative and original design for a temporary pavilion that expressed a “strong and creative identity” to showcase the car at fairs and open air presentations in Italian squares.

    TheeAe LTD. (architect Woohyun CHO): The site is located in an urban area close to the downtown of Daegu, one of the biggest cities in South Korea. In contrast to its locality, this town is isolated from the major city development. The community gets older, and young couples have been moving out to other towns to provide better education for their children.

    Algorithmic design techniques have proliferated in recent years, invading architecture studios at institutions around the world like a swarm of bees taking up residence inside the walls of an old house. Specifically, a number of practitioners and their students have begun exploring the potential of agent-based models to derive a plethora of complex forms, patterns, and organizations that were previously inaccessible with the use of conventional modeling tools. In addition to their capacity for producing architectural effects, the ability to work with, understand, and control these systems has opened up a vast new territory of knowledge . . .
