paul CASTELLANOS + michael KARAYAN: Sited on the wetlands of Marina Del Ray, California, alongside Ballona Creek bike path, is a spa treatment center for patients diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The design investigates translucent and transparent barriers as beneficiary transitions for patients going from one space to the next. The lifting of the program and the programmatic transitions lends itself to the concept of “presage” where the progression of space can be foreshadowed by the occupant.
